• Death. Register, (South Australia) Wednesday 31 May 1848 p2e and 2b
LOCAL INTELLIGENCE
Late on Saturday night last, a pot-house broil, at the "Miner's Arms", Glen Osmond, resulted in the death of one of the parties concerned, - Mr. Edmund Olliver, son of Mr. Edwin Olliver, Cattle Dealer, of that place. It appears that the deceased had been drinking at the "Miner's Arms" on the night in question, and that three men had come into the house while he was there, one of whom he recognised as an old acquaintance. Some provoking
words were used towards the others, when a quarrel ensued, in the course of which deceased was struck violently upon the head with a stick , in consequence of which he died on the following evening (Sunday). On
Monday an inquest was held before William Wyatt, Esq., Coroner, and a verdict of manslaughter returned against one of the parties, James Snow. The partial investigation of the case before the police commissioner
(before whom a person of the name Colton, as well as Snow, is charged with the offence) will be found in our Police report.
